Colombia, located in the northwest of South America, is the fourth largest country on the continent with respect to land area, spread across 1,138,910 square kilometers. It is also the second largest country in South America in terms of population: 49.8 million in 2018. Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, Barranquilla, Bucaramanga, and Cartagena are the main cities in Colombia, accounting for 46% of the total population. In addition, the average age of inhabitants in Colombia is 30.4 years, with an average life expectancy of 75.25 years, and the majority of the population live in urban areas (80.8%).
