Founded by Kalle Lasn and Bill Schmalz in 1989, the Adbusters Media Foundation is a nonprofit, anti-consumerist, pro-environment organization operating out of Vancouver, Canada. Perhaps best known for its eponymously titled magazine, Adbusters has received a tremendous amount of attention since its inception. In fact, Lasn once proclaimed Adbusters would grow into a media and social trend of the 2000s.

One strategy employed by Adbusters activists is what has come to be called culture jamming. Culture jamming involves rearranging popular culture and advertising images and texts so as to subvert their intended meaning and craft an anti-corporate statement.
