Professional associations are formal groups created by and for professionals to bring together like-minded individuals within specific fields of interest, creating a forum where members can grow, learn, and exchange information with peers, thereby fostering a sense of community within a given profession. For the marriage and family therapist (MFT), aligning oneself with professional associations provides many benefits both professionally and personally. It is important for MFTs in training as well as seasoned professionals to be knowledgeable about the professional associations available. Current and future MFTs are encouraged to join professional organizations in an effort to continue education and personal growth, promote advocacy, and align themselves with professional ethics and standards endorsed by the members of the association.
