Premature ejaculation (PE) is defined as occurring when the male ejaculates before he or his partner would like (prematurely) and causes distress. This may range from before penetration to a point just after penetration. It may leave the couple feeling unsatisfied. PE is a common sexual complaint and experienced by approximately one third of men at some point in life. If it happens infrequently, it may not be an issue for an individual or couple. PE can be primary (lifelong) or secondary (acquired). Factors influencing secondary PE include the newness of the sexual partner and the location and recent frequency of sexual activity.
