Multisystemic Therapy (MST) is a comprehensive, multifaceted, home-based, empirical approach to conducting therapy with families that has been utilized throughout the United States and internationally. Created by Scott Henggeler, MST was initially designed to treat delinquent adolescents involved in behaviors such as skipping school, stealing, fighting, and drug use.

Henggeler received his doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Virginia and is currently professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina and director of the Family Services Research Center. Most significantly, MST developed out of his work with inner city youth who had been placed in residential treatment facilities, juvenile halls, and psychiatric hospitals.
