Women’s Project, The
The Women’s Project in Family Therapy was formed in 1977 by Betty Carter, Peggy Papp, Olga Silverstein, and Marianne Walters. The project was created to examine gender biases in the theory and practice of systemic family therapy, as well as to create a model of family therapy that included gender awareness principles in its practice. This model was a precursor to the practice of feminist family therapy, which examines the impact of race, class, and gender on the personal problems of individual families. Carter, Papp, Silverstein, and Walters collaborated on issues regarding women in families and family therapy, initially presenting their ideas and encouraging dialogue in workshops about feminist theory in family work.
