Health-Related Disorders
Acute and chronic health-related disorders in childhood are numerous and are very often associated with other problems of development and adjustment. Type 1 diabetes, cystic fibrosis, asthma, and food allergies are just some of the many common acute and chronic health conditions of childhood (for a partial list, see Table 1). Many of these diseases and conditions come with chronic pain or fatigue, other developmental delays, or co-occurring medical conditions, and impact a child’s and family’s day-to-day functioning as well as long-term adjustment.
