E-Portfolio Technologies
E-portfolios are electronic versions of portfolios now used in many disciplines and of significant interest to the educational technology community. Making use of modern computing tools, the e-portfolio provides numerous instructional and assessment opportunities that benefit students, faculty, and learning institutions as well as employers. This entry first describes e-portfolios, and, more briefly, traditional portfolios and their uses. Then, the technology and current practice associated with e-portfolios are reviewed. Finally, how e-portfolios are applied in schools, colleges, and universities is discussed, along with limitations and concerns associated with e-portfolio use.
