Copyrights

A copyright is a legally recognized monopoly that protects the authors of creative works from unauthorized use of their creations. The purpose of a copyright is to promote the production of creative works such as books, paintings, films, music, and other forms of creative expression by establishing a system of incentives. This is achieved by guaranteeing to the authors exclusive rights over their creations for a limited period of time. To fulfill its purpose, a copyright must balance the protection of the copyrighted work with the circulation of ideas in society, which in turn allows the creation of new works.
