Association of Internet Researchers

The Association of Internet Researchers (AoIR) is an international and interdisciplinary organization that is focused on the study of the social, cultural, political, economic, and aesthetic aspects of the Internet and its use. Founded in 1999 by a group of approximately 60 scholars, today AoIR hosts a membership of approximately 500 individuals, making it one of the largest organizations in the world devoted exclusively to Internet research. AoIR has taken a leading role in advocating ethical and socially responsible approaches to Internet research through the work of its ethics committee. It sponsors an annual conference at which researchers gather and exchange information about their work.
