In Chapter 1 we briefly looked at the wonderful scope of human communication abilities. Human communication takes place at high speed in various ‘channels’ – sound, vision, touch and smell. Our communication abilities are complex, elaborate, intricate, detailed, multilayered, multifaceted and enjoyable. There is general agreement that the learning of being a communicator is the most complicated learning that human beings do. I have already emphasised in Chapter 1, how incredibly complicated is, for instance, face-to-face communication.
