Intensive interaction is an approach to teaching the pre-speech fundamentals of communication to children and adults who have severe learning difficulties or autism, and who are still at an early stage of communication development. Practicalities of Doing Intensive Interaction
In the next six chapters, we describe what we can call the absolute ‘nuts and bolts’ of how to do Intensive Interaction. Literally what do you do, what are the techniques?
There are two main possibilities for your starting point:
- You are starting with a person who is at a very early stage of being a communicator and does not make social contact easily, or is very isolated.
- Your person already has some ability to relate and be social, so you have some already developed activities which you can enjoy with her or him.
Also, you may or may not have some knowledge and experience with an Intensive Interaction practitioner.
