This chapter presents an overview of a strategy for implementing an effective substance abuse prevention program in a school under the leadership of school counselors. In the substance abuse literature, this strategy has been labeled infusion, whereas in education, it is known as curricular integration. The essence of this substance abuse prevention approach is that the content and skills to be learned are spread across several different subject areas, thereby reducing the burden on any one teacher for implementing a program.
