Arvey's (1979) review of the literature regarding unfair discrimination in the employment interview raised awareness regarding legal and psychological issues associated with the employment interview. It was suggested that interviewers may be biased against blacks, females, the disabled, and members of other protected classes, and hence highly vulnerable to legal attack. Arvey called for research that would contribute to the understanding of the factors producing unfair bias and of how the interview process could be designed to reduce unfair bias.
