Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)

Systemic hypertension is the most common cardiovascular condition seen in competitive athletes as well as among adults in the general population. The diagnosis of hypertension is based on blood pressure levels persistently at or above certain levels as measured on two separate occasions. The primary concerns for the athlete with hypertension are the effect of exercise and competition on blood pressure control, or progression of hypertension, and the acute risk exercise and competition may pose to the athlete.
