Thailand

The Kingdom of Thailand (formerly known as Siam) is the third-largest country in southeast Asia, with an area of 198,115 square miles (318,835 square kilometers). The capital city is Bangkok. As of December 2011, Thailand had a population of 65,926,261 and the birthrate between 2000 and 2010 was 0.72/1,000 population. Life expectancies are 69.5 and 76.3 years for males and females, respectively. The literacy rate was 97 percent in 2010. The expected years and mean years of schooling were 12.3 and 6.6, respectively. The political structure is a constitutional monarchy under a parliamentary democratic system.
