Bangladesh is located above the Bay of Bengal, surrounded by Myanmar on the southeast and India on the north, northeast, and west. This fertile and lush country comprises an area of 55,211 square miles (143,998 square kilometers), with an estimated population of 158,570,535 million, the seventh most populated country in the world. Its economy depends on agriculture and forestry, fishing, mining and quarrying, and manufacturing. Bangladesh's gross domestic product (GDP) increased 6.7 percent during 2011 because of strong manufacturing, a bumper harvest, and a healthy service sector.
