Puerto Rico is one of the smallest islands in the Caribbean, measuring 100 miles (161 kilometers) by 35 miles (56 kilometers). The World Bank estimates the population of Puerto Rico at nearly 4 million, with a 90 percent literacy rate and life expectancy of 79 years. San Juan Harbor, one of the deepest harbors in the Caribbean, allows Puerto Rico to be an international hub for trade and transportation.
