Pakistan

The Islamic Republic of Pakistan was created with the partition of erstwhile British India in 1947. It is the world's 36th-largest and sixth-most populous country. Although rich in natural resources, Pakistan is an impoverished and underdeveloped country because of its skewed economic distribution, overpopulation, inflation, illiteracy, unemployment, corruption, drug crimes, decades of internal and external political disturbances including a tense relationship with neighboring India over Kashmir, high international debts, and low foreign investments due to its image as a promoter of international terrorism. About 33.3 percent of Pakistanis live in poverty and social development has lagged considerably in such critical areas as access to healthcare and education, especially for rural women.
