Probabilistic Guttman Scaling

Probabilistic Guttman scaling is an extension to the classical GUTTMAN SCALING method, which is deterministic. In contrast, a probabilistic treatment is stochastic, and there exist numerous variations, the most prominent and earliest of which is a method proposed by Proctor (1970).
