American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)

The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing science around the world through education, advocacy, and leadership. Founded in 1848, it is the world's largest general scientific society, made up of nearly 120,000 individual and institutional members as well as some 262 affiliated societies and academies of science that represent 10 million individuals. The association's headquarters are located in Washington, D.C.

In addition to membership activities and public outreach, each week AAAS publishes the peer-reviewed journal Science, which is considered one of the world's most prestigious scientific journals. AAAS also publishes numerous scientific newsletters, books, and reports and is in the vanguard of programs intended to raise the level of understanding for science worldwide.
