Social–emotional assessment is an essential part of the psychological and educational evaluation process. The term social–emotional assessment includes, but is not limited to, peer relations, affect, emotional resilience (e.g., the ability to recover from emotional setbacks), social withdrawal, social competence, antisocial behavior, and social status. Social–emotional assessment also involves the methods and procedures to measure these constructs. It is an important part of the process of identifying, understanding, and responding to the various problems and challenges that children and adolescents face.
