Consulting is an advisory activity built on an established relationship between a consultant, who passes evaluative judgments, proposes a course of action, or recommends alternatives, and a client seeking guidance on a particular institutional matter or problem. It is worth noting that not all advice giving, such as the advice provided on an interpersonal level between friends or the advice provided by a school counselor to a troubled student, is consulting. Consulting has to do with advice relevant for organizational change and development, not advice regarding an individual’s personal dilemmas.
