Mao Zedong (1893–1976)
Mao Zedong was the first-generation leader of the Chinese Communist Party. He helped found the party and later the People's Republic of China. In China, he is renowned as a party and national leader, military strategist, poet, and political writer. All these roles granted him opportunities for political communication. As a party leader, he successfully engaged the party in seizing political power through military struggles with their enemies and then establishing the People's Republic of China in 1949. As a national leader, he launched a series of political movements that culminated in the Cultural Revolution, for various reasons ranging from removing his political opponents to reforming Chinese culture.
