From idea to text

When we write, we are aware that we propose ideas for inclusion in the text, that we formulate language in our heads to capture some of these ideas, and then try to write that language down before it fades from memory. We also know that we sometimes change what we have written or are about to write. We have some idea, then, about the processes that are involved when we move from idea to text. Identifying these processes and how they work together is important for understanding the nature of writing and for providing a solid basis for teaching writing.
