Psychophysiological Window on Personality: Pragmatic and Philosophical Considerations
The purpose of this chapter is to provide useful information to those personality researchers who want to employ objective psychophysiological measures to differentiate among various psychological functions. From the perspective of these researchers, the various psychophysiological measures and the many technical problems involved in their recording are of little intrinsic interest. What is critical is how much these measures can add to information gleaned from behavioral and introspective (subjective) personality measures including self-report inventories and questionnaires. In terms of the window metaphor to which my title alludes, the issue is to what extent the psychophysiological window provides a useful additional perspective on the psychological functions that underlie personality differences.
