Context of School Psychology
Peru's geographic and political structure has been highly influenced by its rich Inca tradition, Spain's colonization, and the 1821 Proclamation of Independence. The country includes 24 states as well as three geographic areas: coastal (in which Lima, its capital, is located, with 1% of the country's territory), mountains (29% of the territory), and forest (70% of the territory). Each state contains provinces (180 in all), and each province contains districts (1,747 in all). Differences exist in lifestyles and climates, as well as in educational and social expectations.
