Comprehensive and Strategic Internationalization of U.S. Higher Education
Globalization and companion forces propel internationalization of higher education worldwide. The global expansion of higher education instructional and research capacities is likely to flatten the historic advantages enjoyed by North American and European systems and constitutes one of the most potent challenges and opportunities to face U.S. higher education in the coming decades. This challenge occurs in the context of an ongoing but already substantial rebalancing of public U.S. higher education away from heavy reliance on government funding toward greater private investment, which shapes additional changes in the basic financial structure and assumptions underlying higher education.
