Legal, Health, and Safety Issues: Crisis Management and Student Services in International Higher Education
This chapter focuses on important emerging responsibilities in international education administration. A key to success in administering internationalization initiatives is to implement effective programs for providing specialized support on campus and around the world while limiting institutional liability.
While some senior international officers (SIOs) at higher education institutions have experience in the areas of risk management, health and safety support, and aspects of student affairs and international program administration, many come from a faculty/academic background that does not include training in practical program administration on campus or internationally (see also Chapter 7, this volume, on SIO leadership).
