Anyone wishing to advise a researcher who was new to the hospitality and tourism subject field could do worse than to suggest that, before starting out, they look at three particular studies, namely, Robert Lewis's set of articles in the Cornell Quarterly on hotel selection, in which a detailed quantitative study is described both as research and as an educative illustration of statistical propriety (Lewis, 1984a, 1984b); Barbara Townley's qualitative look at the perennial problem of commercializing culture in her study of a museum undergoing organizational change (Townley, 2002); and finally Peccei and Rosenthal's exposition of ...
