Introduction
For many people the debate over terminology and definitions is uninteresting, unimportant, unnecessary and/or impossible to agree upon. Therefore, they argue, why bother? There are a number of reasons to pursue such a debate (Mieczkowski, 1990). First, any field that aspires to be scholarly must develop strict criteria that are generally accepted in order that communication between all interested parties can go on. The procedures of scientific method dictate that theory is dependent upon measurement and definition must precede measurement (Franklin, 2003).
