Geography is the study of the earth's surface, the mapping of the earth, and the study of the earth as the home of people. In this chapter, special attention is given to recreation, tourism, and sports. Places where those activities occur are well known, whether it is the local cycling trail, the Great Pyramids in Egypt, or the Beijing, China, Olympic Stadium. Geography perhaps has its greatest analytical strength in examining the spatial pattern or distribution of activities on Earth, both human and physical, and interpreting the meanings of the patterns.
