Introduction
In Chapter 3, the authors gave a detailed insight into the medical background, epidemiology, and pharmacotherapy of fragile X syndrome (FXS), the most common inherited cause of intellectual and learning disability.
This chapter provides an overview about the life course in carriers with full FXS mutation alleles and also for carriers of the premutation alleles, and non-medical interventions. However, only a small number of controlled intervention studies have been published in the field so far, and the description of the interventional approaches are derived from the general research in intellectual disability, the clinical experience of the authors, and the clinical reports of colleagues.
