Skills and abilities associated with effective intercultural interactions are of interest to management researchers because of the recognition that organizational outcomes often hinge on these individual differences. Furthermore, because there is the opportunity to develop at least some of these attributes in individuals, they form the foundation for tools used to identify and develop effective cross-cultural managers. Some authors have distinguished between skills and abilities by suggesting that abilities are more stable constructs (e.g., Leiba-O'Sullivan, 1999).
