Cluster grouping involves placing a group of 6 to 12 or more elementary students identified as gifted, high ability, high potential, or high achieving into a classroom for the express purpose of providing them with full-time educational services targeted to their advanced learning needs. Throughout the literature these terms are used interchangeably, but this entry uses the term gifted to refer to these students. Cluster grouping is an important topic in gifted education because it is an often-recommended and commonly used practice.
