Entertainment–Education: Hollywood and Public Relations Approach

Entertainment–education is a mass communication strategy in which media programs intentionally incorporate one or more educational messages in an entertainment format aimed at influencing people's knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors. Various forms of popular media have used the entertainment–education approach to disseminate educational messages including movies, popular music, comic books, soap operas, and television sitcoms. The entertainment–education approach to convey health messages has primarily been used in developing countries of Asia, Africa, and Latin America focusing on issues related to HIV/AIDS prevention, family planning practices, and domestic violence prevention. To a lesser extent, this strategy has also been practiced and investigated within the United States.
