Donald Alan Schön (1930–1997), known in the field of education for his ideas about reflective practice, received degrees in philosophy from Yale University (BA, 1951) and Harvard University (MA and PhD, 1955). He taught at the University of California at Los Angeles and the University of Kansas City, and then, he joined the industrial research firm Arthur D. Little, Inc. After serving as the director of the Institute for Applied Technology in the National Bureau of Standards from 1963 to 1966, he cofounded and directed the Organization for Social and Technological Innovation.
