Emotional Development
The aspect of human development that refers to the progression of one's capability to express, regulate, and control one's emotions. Emotions are feelings brought into consciousness by a thought or event. They can be positive, such as happiness and excitement, or negative, such as sadness or fear. Emotional development begins during infancy and extends through adulthood. It is usually conceptualized as part of social development and is related to cognition and psychological well-being. Achieving successful emotional development is identified in terms of demonstrating prosocial behaviors.
