District Attorney
A court officer responsible for prosecuting people accused of crimes. A district attorney conducts criminal proceedings on behalf of the people and represents the state, one side in an adversarial justice system. In some jurisdictions, district attorneys are elected to their posts, and in others they are appointed. They operate at every level of government: city, county, district, state, and federal.
