(1) The practice of assigning tasks and responsibilities to subordinates by a supervisor or manager. A potential problem that can occur with dele gation is suggested by the “principal-agent problem.” That is, can the supervisor who has delegated authority to the subordinate be confident that the subordinate will carry out the agenda and wishes of the supervisor rather than his or her own agenda/wishes? (2) Select members of an organization who are assigned to represent that association's interest to another party.
