Continental Plate
A type of tectonic plate, which is a thick, movable plate found in the earth's lithosphere. Continental plates are portions of the earth's crust that come together to form the landmasses known as continents. The other type of tectonic plate is an oceanic plate, which tends to be much thinner than a continental plate. When continental plates collide with oceanic plates, they produce volcanoes and earthquakes. Additionally, continental plates collide with each other to form mountain ranges.
