Cause
During voir dire, questions are asked of potential jurors to determine their appropriateness for jury duty. Potential jurors can be disqualified based on their prejudices or bias. If such biases exist, the prosecutor or defense attorney can ask the judge to remove the juror for cause. If the judge concurs with the challenge, the juror is removed and replaced. There are typically no limits on the number of challenges for cause that can be effected by either side.
