Universal Design
An instructional design method that incorporates modes of instruction, application, and assessment of new concepts that take into account the learning styles, needs, and abilities of all learners. Traditional methods of instructional design approach planning with a “one-size-fits-all” mentality and assume that teachers will modify the design to fit diverse learners. Universal design assumes that all learners have unique needs and abilities and seeks to develop instruction that is flexible enough to meet these individual needs. This is accomplished by providing learners with multiple options for acquiring and demonstrating mastery of new concepts.
