Stratified Random Sampling
Sampling method that requires knowledge of the distribution of the target variable(s) in the population so as to choose a sample that is representative of that population. Examples of variables include gender and race or a factor of impor tance to the study, such as offense type or place of residence. The population is divided into strata based on the variable(s) of interest, and a random sample is chosen from each strata.
