A nonprofit organized on a local, national, or international level. Nonprofit organizations are set up for charitable purposes and comprise two categories: (1) member-serving organizations and (2) public-serving organizations. Nongovernmental organizations are a common type of public-serving nonprofit. Nongovernmental organizations are driven by people with a common interest in providing service to citizens and acting as advocates to bring citizens' concerns to government. Nongovernmental organizations provide services to their members including providing health and education services, sponsoring cultural and religious activities, and advocating for causes.
