A theoretical concept denoted as g and developed by the British psychologist Charles Spearman in 1904. Using his previously developed method of factor analysis, Spearman found that one general factor (g) could account for the relationship among a number of cognitive abilities. His analyses suggested that if a student performs well in one cognitive domain, he is likely to perform well in other domains too. Similarly, if he performs poorly in one area, he is less likely to succeed in others.
