Takes up the theme of changing party organisation in Brazil in a historical and specific vein. Analyses the Workers' Party (PT) which is the prime attempt to construct a party organisation subordinated to the social movements that constitute its base. Demonstrates how changes in Brazil made a party like the PT possible and documents the difficulties of constructing a party both organised in a new mold and electorally successful.
