Discrete Events Simulation

Abstract

This work explains all the required components to understand what a discrete events simulation (DES) model is. A single-server manual simulation is developed to allow the reader to know how tally and time-weighted statistics are computed and how to compare different system configurations using a statistical test. Further, the main critiques and limitations of DES are presented, and new and emerging research directions are outlined.
