Note: In presidential balloting on October 15, 2014, Filipe NYUSI (Mozambique Liberation Front) won with 57.1 percent of the vote, followed by Afonso DHLAKAMA (Mozambique National Resistance). Nyusi is scheduled to be inaugurated in January 2015.

Official Language: Portuguese (a number of African languages are also spoken).
Monetary Unit: Metical (market rate October 1, 2014: 31.00 meticals = $1US). The “new metical” was introduced in 2006 at the rate of 1 new metical = 1,000 old meticals.
