Note: By a vote of 14 to 6, in late November 2014 the Israeli cabinet endorsed a draft legislative proposal from right-wing parties that would, among other things, declare Israel to be the “nation-state of the Jewish people.” Minister of Finance Yair Lapid (Yesh Atid) and Minister of Justice Tzipi Livni (Hatenua) strongly criticized the proposed legislation, which center and leftist parties viewed as potentially undermining the rights of Israel’s Arabs and other non-Jewish minorities.
